Virtual Mogami 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #32 Myogaku-in Temple
The Oguri Valley used to be swampland. It is believed people from Izu Province first came to the valley and lived as hunting people. Then, other people came from Aki Province, and developed rice fields with the first comers. Believe it or not, they found an Eleven-Faced Ekadasamukha image in the swamp, and enshrined the image near the rice fields they first developed. They called the first rice fields they developed Taro-da, namely First Boy Field, and the second Jiro-da, Second Boy Field. Accordingly, the Ekadasamukha image was called Taroda-Kannon.
