Virtual Mogami 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #29 Saiko-ji Temple

 

     When Hosokawa Senta fished in Mogami River, he caught an image of Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses.  Presumably, the image had been either lost from a shipwreck or washed away from the upper stream in a flood.  He presented it to Saiko-ji Temple.

     In 1633, the villagers built a hall for the image, making use of a drifted gigantic tree.
