Virtual Tama Aqueduct Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #9 Juzen-ji Temple

Hikawa-jinja Shrine was founded in 740 near Unane (today’s address: Unane Takatsu Ward, Kawasaki, Kanagawa 213-0031) along Tama River.  In the 1350's, Tama River flooded and its watercourse changed.  Hikawa Shrine was divided into 3, and were moved to Unane, Kitami, and Okura with Hikami-jinja as their names.  Their holy idols are said to have been carved out of one tree.

Juzen-ji Temple was founded as the shrine temple of Kitami-Hikawa-jinja Shrine, but was abolished after the Gods and Buddhas Separation Order by the Meiji Restoration Government in 1868.  Its main deity was moved to Tama Aqueduct Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #12 Chigyo-in Temple.
