Virtual New Mutsu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #17 Daisho-ji Temple
It is unknown when Oka-dera Temple was founded. The temple enshrined an Eleven-Faced Ekadasamukha statue which is supposed to have been made in the 12th century. As the New Mutsu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage was organized in 1123, the temple's foundation and the production of the image were almost simultaneous. As the image is supposed to have been made in the Kanto Region, someone might have moved from the region to Mutsu Province.
Oka-dera Temple declined but was revevied as Daisho-ji Temple by Priest Ryoin (1319-1400) from Soji-ji Temple in Noto Province.
