Virtual Aduma 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #14 Sen'yo-ji Temple

Sen'yo-ji Temple was founded around today's Morishita, Fukagawa, in 1596 by Priest Shujun, whose younger brother, Fukagawa Hachiroemon, was supposed to have been one of 6 settlers from Settsu Province.  In 1693, the temple was moved to Sarue.  The place name Fukagawa was after Hachiroemon's family name.

The temple burned down in 1818, was hit by floods in 1855, 1865, and 1917.  Finally, in 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake reduced everything to ashes.  In 1927, it was moved across Edo River to its present place.  Although the Fukagawa area was named after Hachiroemon, his grave is in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture.
