Virtual Upper Tada Manor 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #22 Yasaka Shrine
It is unknown when Yasaka Shrine was founded in Akotani Village.
Akotani Village was first documented in 1368, in the middle of the Southern and Northern Courts Period (1336-1392).
In March, 1368, Prince Yutanari (1343-1394) became Emperor Chokei of the Southern Court In Sumiyoshi, Settsu Province. In December, he retreated to Yoshino, Yamato Province, and then advanced to Amano, Kawachi Province, in April, 1369. In August, 1373, he retreated to Yoshino again. Although the Southern Court and the Northern Court seesawed, Akodani Village seems to have been rather stable under the Northern Court.
When Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358-1408), who was the 3rd Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate and who supported or dominated the Northern Court, founded Rokuo-in Temple, Akotani Village sent some contributions.
It is unknown when Kannon-ji Temple was founded as the shrine temple of Yasaka Shrine, but it might have been abolished after the Meiji Restoration Government issued the Gods and Buddhas Separation Order in 1868.
