Virtual Kubota Castle Town 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #10 Genshin-ji Temple

Genshin-ji Temple was founded in 1640 by Satake Yoshinaga.

The Satake Family was based in Oda Castle in Hitachi Province.  The 14th head, Yoshiharu (1443-1490), had 5 sons.  The 5th son, Masayoshi (1484-1534), lived in the east of the castle and supported the head family in the castle.  Accordingly, his family was called Satake East.

The 7th head of the Satake East Family, Yoshinaga, founded Genshin-ji Temple, inviting, Ryutetsu, the 5th head priest of Hakuba-ji Temple, which had been founded by the 4th head of the Satake East Family, Yoshihisa (1554-1601), 1n 1606.  We have another Hakuba-ji Temple in Hitachiota, which was founded in 1533 and is supposed to be the original one.  As having 5 priests in 34 years sounds odd, Ryutetsu might have been the 5th from the founder of the original one.

Anyway, it is unknown why Yoshinaga founded another Buddhist temple besides Hakuba-ji Temple.
