Virtual Akata 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #21 Gassan Shrine's Buddhist Hermitage

 

     There used to be a small Buddhist hermitage in Otsukiyama Akata, Yurihonjo, Akita 015-0023.  Otsuki is the honorific expression of the Moon and the hermitage also worshipped Goddess Tsukuyomi of Gassan Shrine in Yamagata Prefecture.  It is unrecorded whether or not Gassan Shrine in Otsukiyama was one of the 10 shrines that were merged to Shinmei-sha Shrine sometime between 1910 and 1918.  It is unknown why the pilgrimage has 2 #21.
