Virtual Kameda Domain 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #9 Kosen-ji Temple
Kosen-ji Temple was founded in Utetsu Village sometime between 1384 and 1392 by Priest Riki, who was from Daijo-ji Temple. In those days, Utetsu Village covered the whole of the lower reaches of the Imo River. The Utetsu Family ruled Utetsu Village, based in Iwakura Fukuyama, Yurihonjo, Akita 015-0053. They also built Hiraoka-date Fortress in Ienomae-326 Utetsu, Yurihonjo, Akita 015-0024.
Utetsu Magojiro and Magosaburo were depicted in Ou Eigyo Gunki, or Mutsu Dewa Eiroku Keicho War Chronicles, which is the war chronicles of Mutsu and Dewa Provinces from 1534 to 1622. Eiroku Era was from 1558 to 1570, and Keicho Era was from 1596 to 1615. The chronicles were written by Tobe Masanao (1645-1707), a doctor in Yokohori Village, Ogachi County, Dewa Province, and is often quoted as a secondary source when historians talk about Mutsu and Dewa Provinces, which have a few historical documents. Masanao read old documents and interviewed local old people for over a decade, visiting various parts of the provinces. The compilation ended in 1698.
Kosen-ji Temple has the Buddist tablet of Iwaki Nobutaka (1584-1672), who was the 2nd lord of the Kameda Domain, and who was a brother of Satake Yoshinobu (1570-1633), who became the 1st lord of the Kubota Domain.
