Virtual Old Tsugaru 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #10 Kudo-ji Temple
Mount Ajara was a sacred place for northern foreigners in the 9th century. When Buddhism was imported, Amitabha, Acalanatha, and Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, were enshrined on the top of the mountain. Some say the mountain's name Ajara comes from Acalanatha. Later Kofuku-ji Temple was founded for the Arya Avalokitesvara image. Later, Priest Enchi moved it to its present place and renamed it Kudo-ji.
