Virtual Old Tsugaru 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #9 Saisho-in Temple
Saisho-in Temple was founded in the Horikoshi Castle Town in 1532 by Hironobu, who was from Hitachi Province. When Tsugaru Nobuhira, the second lord of the Hirosaki Domain, built Hirosaki Castle in the early Edo Period, the temple was moved to Tamachi (Tamachi, Hirosaki, Aomori 036-8054), which was in the castle's Kimon, north-east,in 1611, and became the shrine temple of Hirosaki Hachimangu Shrine. The temple had 12 branches.
After the Meiji Restoration Government issued the Gods and Buddhas Separation Order in 1868, 11 of the 12 temples were abolished. Saisho-in Temple took on the parishioners of the abolished temples and moved about 3 kilometers south to its present place, where Daien-ji Temple used to be located. The Daien-ji Temple moved to Owani-cho, Minami-Tsugaru-gun, adjacent to Hirosaki City.
