Virtual Okitama 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #1 Kamikosuge Kannon-do Hall

Kamikosuge Kannon-do Hall was founded in Kosuge Village, Okitama County, Dewa Province, in 1318 by Nagai Hidemune.

Okitama County first appeared in a document on January 3rd, 669.  Its county government office is supposed to have been located in today's Nagai City.  The surrounding area was owned by the county government.  Later, its upriver areas were developed into Hojo, Yashiro, and Narishima Manors from north to south.

Oe Hiromoto (1148-1225) was a lower-ranking aristocrat official in Kyoto, moved to Kamakura to support Minamoto Yoritomo (1147-1199), and succeeded as a samurai.  He was appointed to be a steward samurai of Okitama County.  It meant he managed Hojo, Yashiro, and Narishima Manors as well as the county government land.  Hiromoto’s 2nd son, Tokihiro (?-1241), started the Nagai Family and Okitama County was sometimes called Nagai Manor.  He is said to have built Yonezawa Fortress in 1238.

The hall is taken care of by Kinsho-ji Temple.
