Virtual Modern Edo 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #33 Kinsho-ji Temple

There used to be Kinsho-ji Temple in Oshiage Village.    It is unknown when the temple was founded and when it was abolished.  Its main deity was Nandikesvara, and it is unrecorded whether it had an Avalokitesvara statue or not.  It is unknowable where Nandikesvara and Avalokitesvara, if any, have gone.  The temple was famous for its Japanese kerria flowers.  The area has the Tokyo Metropolitan Mukojima Hyakka Garden, whose history dates back to 1804.  The garden was originally built by Sahara Kikuu (1762-1831), a wealthy antique dealer, who first gathered 360 plum trees.  The area might have had an atmosphere to enjoy flowers or the area's soil was suitable for gardening.  Gardening might have been modern for Edo townspeople.
