Virtual Edo Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #4 Shonen-ji Temple

The site of Shonen-ji Temple was excavated in 2012.  They dug out 2 earthenware pot coffins.  One contained 3 bodies and 3 boxes of cremated bones.  The other had 2 bodies in it and 1 beside it.  Grave markers were dated between 1673 and 1860.  So, the temple must have existed from when Tokugawa Ietsuna (1641-1680), the 4th shogen, reigned to when Iemochi (1846-1866), the 14th shogun, reigned.  Iemochi was succeeded by Yoshinobu (1837-1913), the 15th and last shogun.

It wasn't recorded why and when the temple was abolished and went to ruin.
