Virtual Sakai 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #17 Gonen-ji Temple
It is unknown when Gonen-ji Temple was founded, but it seems it was built as the hermitage by Monk Jogyo as a sub-temple within Minami-Juman-ji Temple. It was merged to Chosen-ji Temple, which is the successor of Minami-Juman-ji Temple, in 1909. According to the Sakai Dai-ezu, published in 1609, Gonen-ji Temple was located along Jumankoji Alley, facing north, with Kotoku-ji and Sensho-ji Temples to the east, Chosen-ji Temple to the west, Kensei-ji and Chosen-ji Temples to the south, measuring 13.5 meters east to west and 28 meters north to south.
