Virtual Kawabe 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #24 Gyozen-ji Temple
It is unknown when Gyozen-ji Temple was founded in Morimoto Village, Kawabe County, Settsu Province. Morimoto Village was developed in the flood pain of the Ina River. The village was first documented in 1342, when Morimoto Motoyasu was appointed as the local low-ranking official of the village. Thereafter, the village was ruled by the Morimoto Family, who was a branch of the Itami Family. On March 10th, 1513, Morimoto Shingoro was appointed as the local low-ranking official by the Hosokawa Clan. In 1617, the village was allotted to Katagiri Takatoshi (1601-1638). Takatoshi died on August 1st, 1638, without his heir and the village was confiscated by the Tokugawa Shogunate.
After the Itami Family was almost destroyed by Araki Murashige (1535-1586) on November 15th, 1574, the Morimoto Family was also ruined. Did they become farmers in the village or did they become masterless and thus jobless samurai?
