Virtual Kawabe 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #16 Daiku-ji Temple

Daiku-ji Temple claims to have been founded by Gyoki (668-749) sometime when the 45th Emperor Shomu (701-756) reigned from 724 to 749.

When Araki Murashige(1535-1586), who was based in Arioka Castle, fought against Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582) from 1578 to 1579, the temple and its main deity, the statue of Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, burned down.  The statue was said to have been made sometime between the 10th and 12th centuries.

Another Arya Avalokitesvara statue was remade in 1685.
