Virtual Upper Tada Manor 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #31 Kanro-ji Temple
Kanro-ji Temple is said to have been founded in the 6th century. If it’s true, its foundation is quite old.
Asuka-dera Temple in Yamato Province was built as the family temple of the Soga Clan between the end of the 6th century and the beginning of the 7th century, and was the first Buddhist temple in Japan to have a fully-fledged temple complex.
When Emperor Futotamashiki (572-585) reigned, Mononobe Moriya (?-587), a devoted opponent of Buddhism, and Soga Umako (551-626), who was pro-Buddhism, were severely conflicting against each other over introducing Buddhism, advanced technology, and other knowledge.
When the Vairocana sitting statue was made in Todai-ji Temple from 745 to 752, Tada Mine is said to have provided copper. If Kanro-ji Temple was really founded in the 6th century near the mine, they could have already found a vein of copper as early as in the 6th century. Even today, we can easily find the outcrop of the vein near the temple.
