Virtual North Kawachi 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #20 Shoho-ji Temple
The surrounding area of Shishikutsu-ji Temple has gigantic rocks. En Ozuno (634-701) is said to have started the megalith worship there. The temple was founded by Gyoki (668-749) in the holy place.
Around the Southern and Northern Courts Period (1336-1392), the temple flourished and had 12 branches. Shoho-in Temple was one of them. Shoho-in Temple was burned down in the Siege of Osaka in 1615. In the Edo Period, it was revived and was renamed Shoho-ji.
The temple's precincts have the 13-story stone pagoda which was made in the Southern and Northern Courts Period. The pagoda was moved from Senju-ji Temple, which was another branch of Shishikutsu-ji Temple, when it was abolished after the Meiji Period.
