Virtual Old Tsugaru 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #20 Haruhinai-Kannon-do Hall
In the northern lakeside of Tosa Lake, at the foot of a hill, there was a holy small waterfall where northern foreigners cleansed their food. Later, the waterfall was named Susugu-no-taki, Cleansing Waterfall, by the Japanese people. The Ando Pirates founded Ryuko-ji and Shunpon-ji Temples in front of the waterfall.
After the pirates were driven out to Hokkaido by the Nanbu Family, the temple became out of business with the image of Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, left behind. Its building was called Hiryu-kyu Shrine. In 1614, it was rebuilt as a Kannon-do hall. After the Meiji Restoration Government issued the Gods and Buddhas Separation Order in 1868, the hall was abolished. Not long after the abolishment, it became Haruhinai Shrine. Sometime between 1912 and 1926, it became Haruhinai-Kannon-do Hall.
