Virtual Hachinohe Castle Town 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #23 Kushihiki-Kannon-do Hall
Kagami Tomitsu (1143-1230) invited the god Hachiman to the Nanbu Manor in Kai Province in 1166. His 3rd son, Nanbu Mitsuyuki (1165-1236), moved to Nukanobu County, Mutsu Province, in 1191 and invited the god Hachiman to Takinosawa Village. In 1222, he moved Hachiman Shrine to its present place. It is unknown when Fumon-in Temple was founded as its shrine temple.
After the Meiji Restoration, the temple was abolished, and its buildings burned down in fire in 1893, with its 20 centimeters-tall wooden image of Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, left and enshrined in Kushinoki-Kannon-do Hall.
