Virtual Kesen 33 Kannon Pigrimage #20 Tateshita Kannon-do Hall

Tateshita Kannon, which is Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, used to be privately enshrined by another branch of the Suzuki Family, who lived at the foot of Ikawa Fort.  The image was moved to its present place at the beginning of the 20th century.  As the Ofunato area was hit by tsunami in 1896, the image's relocation, that is the Suzuki Family's move, might have had something to do with the tsunami or the land adjustment after the tsunami.

Ikawa Fortress Site is buried under the Sanriku Expressway, whose construction was finished in 2017, 6 years after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.  The new precincts of Tateshita Kannon-do Hall are sandwiched between the National Highway Route 107 and the equivalently wide road to Suisen Sake Brewery.  Suisen Sake Brewery was moved from Rikuzentakata to Ofunato in August, 2012, one and a half year after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
