Virtual Adachi Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #2 Daiun-ji Temple
Daiun-ji temple was founded by Priest Seietsu (?-1573) in Okegawa Village, Adachi County, Musashi Province, in 1557.
In 1546, Hojo Ujiyasu (1515-1571) defeated Ashikaga Haruuji (1508-1560), the 4th Koga Kanto Deputy Shogun, Uesugi Norimasa (1523-1579), who was the Regent of the Kanto Deputy Shogunate and who was the last head of the Yamanouchi-Uesugi Family, and even killed Uesugi Tomosada (1525-1546), the last head of the Ogigayatsu-Uesugi Family, in the Siege of Kawagoe. The victory, however, cost Ujiyasu a lot. His territory was exhausted, and many farmers abandoned their villages and farms, and ran away. To get the situation under control, Ujiyasu standardized the taxation system in his territory and reduced taxes in 1550.
Ashikaga Yoshiuji (1541-1583), the 5th and last Koga Kanto Deputy Shogun, celebrated his coming of age in Kasai Castle in Katsushika County, Musashi Province, in Novwember, 1554. In 1558, he was appointed as the head of the royal guard, while Hojo Ujiyasu (1515-1571) called himself an attorney general. That was a farce in which Ujiyasu modeled himself after Hojo Yoshitoki (1163-1224), the Regent of the Kamakura Shogunate by comparing Yoshiuji to Minamoto Yoritomo (1147-1199). Anyway, Daiun-ji Temple was founded when the Later Hojo Clan was taking over the Kanto Deputy Shogunate.
