Virtual Hiki Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #20 Senju-ji Temple
A riverbed or river bank along the Toki River just next to Oshidari was developed, and the newly developed area was named Odori. As Joko-ji Temple was founded there by Priest Kakusen (?-1243), the area could have been developed in the Kamakura Period (1185-1333).
Hikawa Shrine was invited to Odori in 1715, and Senju-ji Temple was founded as its shrine temple. After the Meiji Restoration, the temple was abolished and its statue of Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses, was moved to Joko-ji Temple
