Virtual Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #21 Nichirin-ji Temple
Mt. Yatsumizo was located on the border between Hitachi, Shumotsuke, and Mutsu Provinces, and was the highest point in Hitachi Province. The mountain was a holy place, and Nichirin-ji Temple was founded in 673 as a temple of mountain asceticism. In 807, the temple accepted Eleven-Faced Ekadasamukha, and came to belong to the Shingon Sect. In 989, it became recognized as an Avalokitesvara holy place, and later became the #21 member temple of the Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
