Virtual Tama Aqueduct Chichibu 34 Kannon Pilgrimage #29 Eisen-ji Temple
It is unknown when Eisen-ji Temple was founded in Takaido Village, Ebara County, Musashi Province.
The Tamagawa Aqueduct was constructed by the Tokugawa Shogunate to supply drinking and fire-fighting water from the Tama River to Edo in 1653. When the aqueduct was dug near Eisen-ji Temple, a shining rock was dug out. In the shine, Bhaisajyaguru appeared. They built a Bhaisajyaguru hall to enshrine the rock. They dispensed pills, modeling the rock. Anyway, it means Eisen-ji Temple was founded before 1653.
In 1910, Eisho-ji Temple merged Eisen-ji Temple and moved to the precincts of Eisen-ji Temple.
During World War II, the temple and the rock were burned down in the air raid in 1945, and the rock lost its shininess.
