Virtual Yamanote 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #21 Horyu-ji Temple

It is unknown when and where Horyu-ji Temple was founded.  The temple was moved to Ushigome Village in 1635.  Hachisuka Tadateru (1611-1652), the second lord of the Awa Domain, built the Ushigome Gate of Edo Castle in 1636.  The area still has Horyuji-zaka Hill, and it was at the top of the hill that Horyu-ji Temple used to be located.  The latest record of the existence of the temple dates back to April, 1869.  In those days, the woods of those temples grew so thick that some even called the hill Phantom Hill.  The hill is between Bentencho and Ichigayayanagicho in Shinjuku City, Tokyo.

The temple was mentioned as Horyu-in in the Edo Powdered Gold,  which was published in 1732 by Kikuoka Senryo (16801-1747).

It is unknown when the temple was abolished.
