Virtual Modern Edo 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #5 Ryuho-ji Temple
Ryuho-ji Temple was founded by Priest Gokai in 1599 in Kannon-zaka Hill, Surugadai, Kanda. In 1635, it was moved to its present place by Priest Honkai.
The temple's main deity is the statue of Cintamanicakra, who usually has 6 arms and holds chintamani (a wish-fulfilling jewel) in one of the six. The statue was carved out of gosirsa-candana wood, which grew in the south-western mountain range, or the southern part of the Western Ghats, India, and whose color is red unlike usual candana, by Visvakarman, and was brought to Japan.
As the temple was founded after Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616) moved to Edo, it could be modern.
