Virtual Modern Edo 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #3 Honryu-in Temple

A hill abruptly sprang out of the ground in Jariba Village, Toshima County, Musashi Province, at the turn of the 7th century.  A golden dragon descended from heaven and guarded the hill.  6 years later, when the village suffered drought, Eleven-faced Ekadasamukha was saddened and felt compassion for people, changed into Vinayaka, descended to the hill, and relieved people in agony.  Since then, Vinayaka has been enshrined on the hill.

Honryu-in Temple is known for its Oil Bath Ritual.  They place their Vinayaka statue on a brass basin and pour consecrated warm oil on it, using a ladle 108 times every morning.  It is considered the most sacred and potent of the deity's rituals.  Honryu-in Temple is also the #24 of the Edo Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
