Virtual Musashi 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #9 Kannon-ji Temple

It is unknown when Kannon-ji Temple was founded.  Although it was named Kannon-ji, its main deity was Mahavairocana, and its Arya Avalokitesvara statue was enshrined in its Avalokitesvara Hall.  Since the temple belonged to the network of Mitsugon-in Temple, to which Ina Tadaharu (1606-1653) prayed for the success of developing rice fields in the area, we can guess the development increased the population and new temples were founded including Kannon-ji Temple.

The place name "Sone" often refers to a natural levee in a flood plain.  Nakasone Village was located in the flood plain between the Olt Tone and Old Watarase Rivers.
