Virtual Aduma 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #6 Sofuku-ji Temple

Kayama Taigan (?-1661) built Sofuku-an Hermitage at Hamacho, Nihonbashi, in 1600.  In 1613, one year before the Seize of Osaka, Sakai Tadayo (1572-1636) put a faith in it, changed it a temple, supported it, invited Priest Jotetsu (?-1623) from Sonei-ji Temple, and named it Sofuku-ji.  Since then, the temple became the family temple of the Sakai Family.

In January, 1657, the temple burned down, and was moved to Matsukiyocho, Asakusa.

The temple was destroyed in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and was moved to its present place in 1927.

The temple enshrines Cintamanicakra, who usually has 6 arms and holds chintamani (a wish-fulfilling jewel) in one of the six, and is also the #1 of the 33 Kannon Pilgrimage in Asakusa and Shitaya.  The name, history, and membership of the pilgrimage is unknown today.
