It is unknown when Shonen-ji Temple was founded in Yamamoto Village, Kawabe County, Settsu Province.  Yamamoto Village was first documented in the Wamyo Ruijusho, namely Japanese Names for Things Classified and Annotated,  which was a Japanese dictionary compiled in 938, and which lists Japanese place names from south to north.

One of the oldest stone monuments in Shonen-ji Temple dates back to December 10th, 1747.
