Virtual Settsu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #5 Ryusho-ji Temple
A 4 centimeters-tall Horse-Headed Hayagriva image made of Jambunada-suvarna, or the gold produced from the river running through the groves of the jambu trees, was found in Nunobiki Falls. The 40 centimeters-tall wooden Horse-Headed Hayagriva is believed to have been carved by En Ozuno (634-701) to enshrine the gold image in its chest. Ryusho-ji Temple was founded in 697 to enshrine the statue in today's 8 Chome Kumochicho, Chuo Ward, Kobe, Hyogo 651-0056. In 1889, the temple was burned in fire and was moved to its present place in 1920.
