Virtual Settsu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #20 Jofuku-ji Temple
Gyoki visited where Koda Village, Teshima County, Settsu Province, was in medieval days, in 731, built a hermitage, carved the Thousand-Armed Sahasrabhuja statue, and enshrined it in the hermitage. That was the start of Jofuku-ji Temple. It is unknown when the hermitage became a Buddhist temple.
The temple's 2nd priest, Daitoku, had the temple belong to the Shingon Sect, which was organized in Japan in the 9th century. If the temple had been founded in 731, its foundation date and the succession of the 2nd priest seem to have some gap.
