Virtual North Kawachi 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #3 Jonen-ji Temple

 

     Rennyo (1415-1499) was the founder of True Pure Land Buddhism.  Jitusju (1498-1564) was the 13th son of him, moved to Hirakata, Kawachi Province, and founded Junko-ji Temple in 1559.  Hirakata Holy City was developed around the temple.  The sect broke up into East-Honganji and West-Honganji sub-sects in 1602, and the city declined.  In 1682, Jonen-ji Temple was appointed as the local head temple of the West-Honganji sub-sect.  So, Jonen-ji Temple could have been founded sometime between 1559 and 1682.
