Virtual Akata 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #4 Ito Tohei's House

 

     Climbing down Mount Toko, you walk on the right bank of the Akata River into the center of the Akata Valley.  At the east end of the area, you find #4 deity.

     When Akata 33 Kannon Pilgrimage was organized, its #4 deity was enshrined in Ito Tohei's house, which seems to have been located around where Akata Community Center is.  The center is in the center of the Akata Valley.  Mount Toko, which we have climbed, is located in the east of the valley.  Toko literally means East Light.  The other 29 deities are rather randomly scattered across the valley.  Usually, 33 Kannon pilgrimages have their member temples either lined in a one-way or deployed clockwise or counterclockwise for the convenience of touring.  The numbering of the Akata 33 Kannon Pilgrimage is a mystery.
