Virtual Old Mutsu 33 Kannon Pigrimage #16 Kannon-ji Temple
It is unknown when Kannon-ji Temple was founded in Isawa between the Isawa River in the south and the Nagasawa River in the north. Isawa used to be a foothold of northern foreigners along with Shiwa. The Isawa River might have been a defense line or a natural moat for the northern foreigners.
In the site of Hachiman Fortress, Jomon ware which are supposed to have been used by northern foreigners were excavated. In medieval days, the Kashiyama Family ruled the area, based in Obayashi Fortress near Kannon-ji Temple.
All in all, Kannnon-ji Temple was founded in a strategic point.
