Virtual Old Mutsu 33 Kannon Pigrimage #27 Iwanami

 

     Almost nothing is known about #27 deity of the Old Mutsu 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, but the proper noun Iwanami.  Its implication is unknowable whether there used to be Iwanami-ji Temple, there used to be Iwanami-Kannon, there used to be Iwanami Village, or .....  Whatever Iwanami it was, the deity should have been located along the straight line between Taga Castle and Shiba Fortress, or, more precisely, between #26 Seisui-ji Temple and #28 Takaderayama or Mt. Takadera.  Was there a station or a fort for the Imperial Army?
