Virtual Musashino 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #9 Jitsuzo-in Temple

 

     Jitsuzo-in Temple was founded by Priest Yuen (?-1616) presumably at the beginning of the Edo Period (1603-1867) in Tokorozawa Village, Iruma County, Musashi Province.

     Tokorozawa Village first appeared in a document in 1305, and might have been developed in the Kamakura Period (1185-1333).  The village was developed along the Kamakura Kaido Kamitsu-michi, literally the Kamakura Highway Upper, which ran from Kamakura through the capitals of Musashi and Kozuke Provinces and over the Usui Pass to Shinano Province.

     Jitsuzo-in Temple enshrines Arya Avalokitesvara, who is the human-figure prototype of the other 6 metamorphoses.
