Virtual Musashino 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #15 Shorin-ji Temple

Shorin-ji Temple was founded by Ginkoku (?-1653) in Hayashi Village, Iruma County, Musashi Province.  It means the temple was founded after the establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate to meet the religious needs of the increasing population in the outskirts of Edo.

Hayashi Village was developed along the Toshitorazu River, namely Eternal-Youth River.  The Toshitorazu River is, along with the Kasumi, Yanase, Kurome, Shirako, and Shakujii Rivers, supposed to be one of the traces of the Old Tama River.  The Toshitorazu River is said to have been named so as it ran dry in winters.  In Japan, people were supposed to be 1 year older as they see the old year out and the New Year in.  The river never, as it ran dry in winters, saw the old year out and the New Year in.

New Year came in Musashino

Shorin-ji Temple is also the #30 member of the Sayama 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
