Virtual Kodama Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #25 Josho-ji Temple
It is unknown when Josho-ji Temple was founded as the shrine temple of Kamigo-Kodai Shrine, which used to be called Dai-jingu in the Edo Period (1603-1867).
In ancient times, there used to be the Musashi Seven Corps. The most part of Musashi Province was plateaus deeply covered with volcanic-ash soil, which was suitable for stock farming, not for rice growing. In ancient times, many of the naturalized Silla people then were sent to Musashi Province, and engaged in the stock farming. That stimulated local people there, and many stock farms were set up, including 6 imperial stock farms. The custodians of those farms later formed small-scale would-be-samurai families. By marriage, those would-be-samurai families composed 7 corps on the Musashi Plateaus. The Tan Corps was one of the 7. The Tan Corps was composed with Maruko, Tan, Niizato, Hanzawa, Anbo, Nagahama, Teshigahara, Nakamura, Nakayama, Ozeki, Kaji, Yokose, Han, Ogano, Okawara, Aoki , Ogushi, and Shimura Families.
Nagahama Nobumitsu was the 3rd son of Niizato Tsunefusa. Nobumitsu moved to Nagahama, and called his family Nagahama, namely Long Beach. His fortress's nick name was Ukihama, namely Floating Beach. Anyway, he was based along the Kanna River.
According to the Taiheiki, Chronicle of Great Peace, which is a Japanese historical epic written and compiled in the late 14th century, Nagahama Mitsutsune (?-1337) fought for Nitta Yoshisada (1301-1338). Mitsutsune took part in the 1337 siege of Kanegasaki, and was killed in battle. Supposedly, Mitsutsune entered the Kanegasaki Fortress with Yoshisada's 1st son, Yoshiaki (1318-1337) in October, 1336, and the fortress fell on March 6th next year. Yoshiaki and over 300 samurai are said to have killed themselves on the last day, but it is unknown precisely when Mitsutsune died. Taiheiki covers the period from 1319 to 1367, when battles and wars occurred one after another.
