Virtual Tama Aqueduct Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #3 Jigen-ji Temple
A local of Takigayato, Tsuzuki County, Sagami Province, found a Trailokyavijaya statue at the middle of a cliff. Monk Join got the statue and built a small hermitage in Seta, Ebara County, Musashi Province, in 1306 to enshrine the statue. Nagasaki Shirozaemon changed the hermitage into a temple and named it Jigen-ji. Nagasaki Shigemitsu was subject to Imagawa Yoshimoto (1519-1560). After Yoshimoto was killed by Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582), he was fed up with the confusion of the Imagawa Clan, and moved to Seta, Ebara County, Musashi Province, and became subject to the Later Hojo Clan. After the collapse of the Later Hojo Clan in 1590, he fed up with being a samurai and became a farmer in Seta. Who was a Nagasaki? Taira Moritsuna served the 3 heads of the Hojo Family or the 3 Regents of the Kamakura Shogunate, Yasutoki (1183-1242), Tsunetoki (1224-1246), and Tokiyori (1227-1263). He was one of the 18 cavalrymen who followed Yasutoki in the Hojo Family’s crisis during the Jokyu War in 1221. On August 5, 1234, he became the Steward of the Hojo Clan. Moritsuna claimed to be the offspring of Taira Sukemori (1161-185), the grandson of Kiyomori (1118-1181). His grandson, Mitsutsuna (?-1297), acquired the Nagasaki Manor, Tagata County, Izu Province, and started calling his family Nagasaki. After Taira Yoritsuna (?-1293) was cornered by Hojo Sadatoki (1272-1311) to kill himself, Mitsusuna's son, Takatsuna (?-1333), became the Steward of the Hojo Clan. On May 18th, 1333, Nitta Yoshisada (1301-1338) invaded Kamakura. On the 22nd, the Kamakura Shogunate collapsed and the Hojo Clan committed mass suicide in Tosho-ji Temple. Takatsuna also killed himself there with his son, Takasuke (?-1333), and his grandson, Takashige (?-1333). Some branch family members survived. The names of Nagasaki, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, and Nagasaki, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, are said to have originated from the fact that they were territories of the Nagasaki Family.
