Virtual Musashi 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #29 Kannon-ji Temple
It is unknown when Kannon-ji Temple was founded. It enshrines an eleven-faced Ekadasamukha statue. As the temple shares the same sango “Shintaisan” with Daisho-ji Temple, Kannon-ji Temple might have been a branch temple of Daisho-ji Temple, which was founded by Monk Fudo in 750, enshrining the Acalanatha statue which was carved by Priest Roben (689-773), who was the clerical founder of Todai-ji Temple in Nara. Presumably, as the main deity of Daisho-ji Temple was Acalanatha, they built a hall to enshrine an eleven-faced Ekadasamukha statue.
