Virtual Quasi-Saigoku Inage 33 Kannon Pilgrimage #29 Shiboku-Senju-do Temple

     It is unknown when and by whom Senju-do Temple was founded.  The Sawatari Family has led the association of several families to hold a monthly meeting to chant a prayer to the thousand-armed Sahasrabhuja statue, which was carved by Ryogen (912-985), according to oral tradition.

     Recently an old itabi dated 1547 was dug out in the precincts.  It could have been a grave yard in the Warring States Period.

     In 1543, guns were introduced to Japan.  They changed the tactics in battlefields drastically.  In 1545, Hojo Ujiyasu (1515-1571), the second head of the Later Hojo clan, was driven between Scylla and Charybdis, between the devil and the deep blue sea, or between the tiger in the front gate and the wolf in the back gate in Chinese.  Whatever you may call it, he was attacked by Imagawa Yoshimoto (1519-1560) from the east and by the Kanto Deputy Shogun in Koga and the Regent of Kanto Deputy Shogunate from the west.  The one buried under the itabi might have been killed in one of the 2 front lines.

     Ujiyasu resolved the crisis, and the ancient regime in the Kanto Region collapsed.
